“I’m honored to receive the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award, which caps a tremendous year for the Kurion team,” said John Raymont, Kurion founder and CEO. “We faced an incredible challenge and opportunity to assist with the cleanup at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant following last year’s earthquake and tsunami. It was the selection of Kurion and delivery of our critical cesium removal system in only five weeks that tested the team and propelled the company‘s growth, most recently enabling the company to acquire the GeoMelt® technologies.”
“John and his remarkable team of industry experts have consistently under promised and over delivered, whether at Fukushima or in meeting other technology development goals,” said lead investor Josh Wolfe, founding partner and managing director of Lux Capital. “The Kurion system was part of an unprecedented effort by an international team of leading radioactive waste management companies to quickly deliver the first-ever external cooling system for a nuclear reactor, with Kurion the sole American company in a lead position.”
As an Orange County region award winner, Raymont is eligible for consideration for the Ernst & Young National Entrepreneur Of The Year 2012 Award. Award winners in several national categories, as well as the Ernst & Young National Entrepreneur Of The Year Overall Award winner, will be announced at the annual awards gala in Palm Springs, Calif., on November 17, 2012.
